Spalding Phonics
We incorporate phonics into our everyday curriculum. We use what is called Spalding phonics. It was created by a woman named Romada Splading who believed that children need to learn the sounds of speech and the mechanics of the written word, which will in turn allow them to immerse themselves in literature. Our ultimate goal is to have fluent readers.
Please help your child daily in phonics by using the "rules" shown on their spelling lists and the phonogram cards given to you either in Kindergarten or at the beginning of this year. Play a simple game with them, or use them like flash cards to review the sounds. If you need any help with this, please feel free to ask. You may not have learned phonics this way, nor have you had to practice phonics in a long time.
